Night Three of Neon Reverb:
A reformed Atari Teenage Riot played in the back parking lot of the Royal Resort. Their new material is a bit more cohesive and less frenetic than what I remember listening to 14 years ago.
We scooted over to Artifice for another free show. First act Shiny Boots of Leather were rootsy and set the bar for the evening. United Ghosts were next. Ex members of LA psych rock band Mere Mortals. Very expensive guitar gear, and a pro sound.
It’s been a while since we saw the Lazystars. Molly’s last review, which covered a major cash-prize battle of the bands, sparked some heat from fans of a local hardcore band (who somehow won the contest). The ‘stars have regrouped with a permanent keys player, and have a new guy on guitar. The typeface on the folding screen that surrounds the keyboards hints to their slight change in style (a more 60′s vibe).
There’s another band playing tonight, but it’s a school night for me, so I’ll have to sit this one out. Thanks for another great festival, Neon Reverb. See you in the spring.
