Vestiges photography exhibition @ UNLV

UNLV fine art alums Jennifer Kleven and Krystal Ramirez are back on campus so to speak, exhibiting their photographs at Tam Alumni Center. The show, titled Vestiges, is comprised of a series of photos by Kleven and Ramirez shot over the last two years.

vestigesWhile not originally shot in anticipation of an exhibition, these photos are thematically similar. The subject matter is distinctly devoid of human activity, beautifully dystopian scenes in various stages of decay.

The decay doesn't overtake the compositions, though, all of which were shot on medium-format film. They read more like vacation postcards by someone who had the prescience to create them before the fact, from locales like Mexico, Arizona, New Orleans, and, yes, Las Vegas. Notable pieces include "Knuckles," "Alameda," "Meteor Crater," and "Building in Sky." The photographs are also not labeled, leaving subtle clues for the viewer to connect.
